Thursday morning I was suppose to go running at 5:45 am with my neighbor. I could hear the wind ALL night and was worried about running in the morning. At 5:30 I texted my friend to say we probably should not go. I knew the wind was blowing hard but I had no idea how bad it was.
Right when I was leaving for work our power went off... this was about 7:30 am. I called my friend who works with me (who lives down the street) to see if she was going to work because it was SO windy and I was scared to go outside. I told her I was going to pick her up because I was not about to go alone. I can't count the number of times we both said "OH MY GOSH!!!" on our way. We saw so many HUGE trees down. The bleachers from the soccer field were blown to the yards across the street. We had to turn around multiple times because of all the falling trees that were blocking the road.
When we got to work we had power for about 30 minutes. At work we saw a huge cement sign fall over on a car. An older lady fell over in the parking lot because of the wind. It was crazy!! I felt like I was in the movie Twister! There was a mini van that pulled in and it looked like glitter in the air but it was his back window that burst from the pressure of the wind.
Spencer was on his was to Salt Lake. I kept calling him to make sure he was okay. East Ogden got hit really hard but the worst of it was in the East parts of Layton, Centerville and Bountiful. Spencer was driving at the worst time. I was talking to him and all of a sudden he said... oh my gosh, oh my gosh and hung up!
Ya, you can't say that then hang up!! I was freaking out. He later called back to inform me that the gas station on highway 89 that he was next to window's burst out and their roof was blowing off. There was piece of metal flying threw the air that came 20 yards from Spence's car and hit the elecritcal pole behind him knocking it over!! I kept trying to convince him to STOP driving to work and come home. There were multiple semis that had been blown over. They had the freeway shut down for part of the morning. Spence drove in some neighborhood trying to get home and saw a trampoline flying in the air, lots of garbage cans and fence parts. We both made it home safe, luckily. We were also lucky not to have any damage to our house. We had a few big branches in our yard and lots of garbage but we made it out pretty good considering how our neighboorhod looks. We stayed home for a while until it was too cold we could not stand it. We spent the rest of the day at my parents. We took a few pictures of some trees close to us.
This is our neighbor on the SW corner of us.
They had this HUGE pine tree up-root on their house. It's unbelievable!!
This is a road to the South of us.
More trees down!
We came home to sleep that night, thinking the power would come back on in the middle of the night. It was 52 degrees in our house. FREEZING!! We had propane heater my parents let us use. We just turned it on right before bed to warm up our room but we didn't dare sleep with it on, it was for indoor/outdoor use but I was not going to risk it! At 4:45 am when I woke up I was in the exact same spot..I was pretty sure I was frozen to the bed. I looked at the clock and we still did not have power. I was shocked!! I was getting my stuff to get ready at work and it came on at 6 am! Thank goodness. WOW, that was quite the day. I am now SO much more grateful for a nice WARM house that protects us from the wind and has power!!!
This is down a few roads and probably the reason why we did not have power for over 24 hours! This massive tree took out the power line.

That is nuts! I was watching on Good Morning America sometime last week and they were showing footage of students at Weber State actually getting blown off an outdoor staircase. So scary! I am glad you are both ok!
That was seriously NUTS!!!
