Last week when I was at work I had a new patient, no big deal, took some x-rays, chit chatted about he health history, seemed like a clean, nice man he was older maybe late fifty's. So I start off with taking the x-rays and I can see massive radiographic calculus so I start to explain perio and scaling and root planning. I took a pano, then started to explain probing. I got an assistant to chart for me I started on 2, every thing was going great I get about to # 5 and I lifted up his lip a little so I can see better and I notice this foreign looking object up on his gums, mind you he has more then normal amounts of saliva so I lifted his lip up all the way to see what the object is and it is a HUGE, sick, nasty finger nail, ya that's right apparently he was biting his nails off and forgot to spit it out! It was just chilling up there! How can you not feel that? I don't know! It looked like a toe nail, it was brown, huge and nasty. I act calm took it out, about ready to vomit, and put it on a 2x2, went on with the measurements then got up, ready to throw up, showed every one in the office my finding!! They were all disgusted as well. Ya sick, but that is not all. I saw him yesterday for SRP and I just thought to myself, what are the odds of finding another finger nail!? So I lift up his lip, sure enough the exact same place another sick nail! I could not believe it! I wonder if he was doing it on purpose to see if I would say any thing. I didn't say anything, but I should have! I thought my hygiene friends would appreciate the story. haha :) Sorry to everyone else that might find this more then they wanted to see on the blog.

That is thee most sickest thing EVER..a toenail or any nail for that matter in your mouth?! How nas-tay..i probably would have thrown up all over the patient...that would have taught him a lesson-haha..thanks for the sick, nasty story!! hold on i gotta go throw up now....

That is so gross! That's probably worse than stuff you find at the gyno office. So have you read up on all your literature yet?

sick that is disgusting! and that thing is huge. that is quite the story. and then to have one there the next time that's just gross! you'd think he'd be a little aware of it the next time he went in, I feel bad for the guy that is embarassing not to mention sick!

Oh my gosh Michelle... That happened to me last week. It was down in the sulcus. It was the first in my hygiene career. Glad all is well
